How many of us get uncomfortable when we think about money, or God forbid - talk about it? I SURE AS HECK DID.
Most of us have grown up in a society where talking about money is forbidden, asking for more money is considered selfish and greedy. Our schooling system doesn't actually teach us how to make money (other than working for someone else), let alone how to do our taxes! Yet so many of us struggle day to day to pay rent, put nourishing food on the table and gas in the car.
In a world where money is so abundant, where there is an exchange of it daily - it's a wonder so many of us are living like this.
I can tell you one of the most liberating and empowering things I did for my back pocket, was change my mindset and attitude around money. How I spoke about it, how I spent it, how I thought about it, how I viewed others who obtained it and how I worked for it. Negative talk about money is so rooted and engrained within generations and it was finally something I wanted to break free from. To not only free myself, but support my family and those around me.
In 2019, I took it upon myself to completely transform my pre-dispositioned ideas about money and my relationship with it. I wanted to create a space of abundance and financial security in my life and I knew I wasn't going to get there with the lack mindset I currently had.
I mean, it seems funny to say - "I have a negative money mindset". Even hearing it for the first time I thought "that's not even a THING". But there must be some kind of a pattern because the finances around me and the money I was bringing in didn't really scream "abundance" and "prosperity". What was the worse that could happen? I would just think and speak a little more different?

I grew with a negative mindset surrounding money and I'm sure you can identify with similar stories we tell ourselves. I didn't grow up 'poor' but we weren't 'rich' by society standards either. My mum worked multiple jobs to stay afloat with four kids, my dad worked day and night so we rarely saw him.
My idea of 'work' and 'money' sounded a similar note to "work is long (and hard) and you don't really have time for yourself". (*Can a take a rain check on this thing called 'life' thanks?*)
Trickled with other stories like: those who had a lot of it were immoral, greedy, materialistic, somehow just magically born into wealth, selfish (insert more shitty ass adjectives here). Can you start to see all of the reasons why I wouldn't want to make money?
For years I had a broke mindset. I believed in order to prevent myself from being all of those things I should stay broke to never identify with it. Live the hippie, carefree lifestyle, but this only lead me into a spiral of 'never having enough' and always worrying about funds on my card.
I was working mediocre jobs, waitressing, barista, bartender, cook, retail and every other the minimum wage gigs.
the following mottos on repeat:
" I'm broke"
"I can't afford that"
"oh declined? try this card"
"not today - maybe next pay"
I never felt like I had enough and there became a point in my life where I realised the only person who was going to change this narrative was myself. There was no fall back plan and this independent girl wanted to make it happen.
So I dove deep.
I became completely consumed by spoken affirmations, journalling, mediating, the law of attraction, abundance mindsets, the constant flow of money and the exchanges we have with it. I listened, I learnt, I trusted. Car rides to work and dinner time cooking were quickly filled with audiobooks. Mornings and nights were journalling and meditating on abundance and the things I wanted to attract into my life. I absorbed it all. I took it upon myself to open up multiple sources of income and start my own online business. To take the leap of faith and let go of all fear, judgement and negativity around money.
Read the books. Shift your mindset. Know that you can make an abundance of money.
